Response to Intervention (RtI)
Additional Classroom Support For Preschoolers
Understanding the unique needs and developmental stages of young children is essential as our staff is dedicated to helping every child learn and thrive. At Presby Preschool, we work with Warsaw Community Schools to implement a comprehensive Response to Intervention (RtI) framework to ensure every child receives the support and resources they need.
Through early identification, targeted interventions, and ongoing progress monitoring, we strive to provide personalized support to preschoolers who may require additional assistance in specific areas of their development.
Together with a team of skilled educators and specialists, we are committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where every child can reach their full potential and embark on a successful educational journey.
RtI is provided at no additional cost to you and can be instrumental in setting your child up for academic success once they enter kindergarten.
What Is RtI?
Response to Intervention (RtI) is a multi-tiered framework designed to support students who may be struggling academically or behaviorally by providing timely and targeted interventions. At its core, RtI aims to identify and address students’ needs early on, preventing the development of more severe difficulties as they enter K-12.
In addition to RtI services provided by our Tutor/Coach, we also work closely with Grace College, as their early education students are often involved in providing tutoring services for our preschool students.
If after a period of intervention, a child does not make progress, then they are referred to Warsaw Community Schools staff for an evaluation.
Does My Child Need RtI?
Identifying whether your child may benefit from RtI as part of their preschool education involves observing their academic, behavioral, and social-emotional progress. Common indicators can include:
-
Academic Struggles
Difficulty in mastering reading, writing, or math at an age-appropriate level.
-
Lack of Progress
Not progressing at the expected rate compared to their peers
-
Behavioral Challenges
Consistent behavior issues inside the classroom, such as being unable to follow instructions or difficulty focusing and managing emotions.
-
Attention Difficulties
Inability to focus during instructional activities or a short attention span.
-
Social-Emotional Concerns
Has challenges interacting with their peers and difficulty making friends.
The RtI Process
As preschool is typically the first time your child may be introduced to a classroom setting, it is also an important opportunity to assess their potential needs academically and socially. If you have concerns about your child’s progress or behavior, contact their teacher to discuss whether you believe intervention is necessary.
Data from classroom monitoring, screenings, or observations conducted by your child’s teachers can indicate areas where your child is struggling or not meeting developmental milestones without additional assistance.
Remember that every child develops at their own pace, and occasional academic or behavioral challenges are common. However, if our staff notices persistent difficulties that may be interfering with your child’s ability to learn and thrive, it could be beneficial to explore the possibility of RtI.
